Jessica Fernández

Director of the Master in Engineering in Industrial Design and Coordinator of the Engineering in Industrial Design project area

Engineer in Industrial Design by ELISAVA, she later took the European University Postgraduate in Industrial Design Engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and she is currently finishing her PhD thesis, which is related to the Materials Engineering programme, at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

Professionally, she has a background of more than 20 years with a vast collaboration with companies and creative orientation in Engineering and Design studios, acting as director of projects at a national and international level. Among her most renowned projects, there are clients like Unilever, Procter & Gamble, Nestlé, Gallina Blanca, Shell, l’Oréal, Coca Cola Company, Ajuntament de Barcelona, among others.

She specialized herself in design strategy and methodologies for innovation. Her focus is on working from technological creativity for design and implementation in disruptive proposals. In recent years she has concentrated on application areas related to Smart Textiles, Smart Objects, Nanobiosensors integrated in the human and applications for graphene materials. This work was the basis for her PhD thesis, which studies new design paradigms liable to abolish the physical limits of materials in the face of the current change of technological era.

At the same time, she has taken part in national and international congresses and has published articles related to the made research. She occasionally collaborates as mentor and advisor in social and entrepreneur innovation programmes.

At ELISAVA, she is the Coordinator of the Engineering in Industrial Design project area and Co-Director of the Master in Engineering in Industrial Design. She is part of the teaching staff of the Degree in Engineering in Industrial Design and the Master in Research for Design and Innovation (MiDi).
