Conference of GRAUX & BAEYENS architects

7.30 p.m.
ELISAVA (La Rambla, 30-32). Aleix Carrió Room (1st floor)

The Postgraduate in Interior Space Design. Private Perimeters has invited the Belgian architects Koen Baeyens and Basile Graux (picture) to ELISAVA to give a lecture about their work: 'From Thought to Matter', which take place on Friday 25 of May at 7:30 p.m.

What is good architecture? For the office GRAUX & BAEYENS architects there is no such thing as good or bad architecture. They believe that the relevance of architecture is being determined by the questions that are being asked (and answered) during the design- and build process. Architecture is the act of creating space and possibility’s, were the building itself is merely the derivative of that activity, a template for its users.

The architecture studio GRAUX & BAEYENS opened in 2005 and operates in the field of contemporary architecture, interior and product design. The office is realizing a variety of projects in Belgium ranging from single family dwellings, nightclubs, office buildings and design furniture.

GRAUX & BAEYENS architects have developed several design principles during the past 13 years of their studio which they use as guidelines during the creative process: contextuality versus generic architecture, the limits of architectural re/presentation,  architectural emotions, familiarity versus strangeness...

The dialog based on those principles is the key element in the design process of GRAUX & BAEYENS architects because it allows them to grasp the zeitgeist in which they are operating as architects. This research translates into projects that combine a vast amount of conflicting parameters into one clear image, without giving away any of the effort it took to get “from thought to matter”.
